League of Legends Patch 11.19 will go live on Wednesday, Sept. 22 and with it should be the highly anticipated Vex. Vex is Riot Game’s newest confirmed champion, a gloomy yordle mage. With the release of this new and unique champion are questions such as, “How do I beat Vex?” Here is the answer, with the five best counters to Vex listed below.

LeBlanc looks to be one of Vex’s hardest matchups. While Vex has a stronger fear against dashes, LeBlanc can dance around Vex with her multiple blinks while also keeping the ability to harass and one-shot her if she comes too close.

Kassadin is a classic anti-mage and Vex is no exception. Vex does primarily magic damage and Kassadin’s built in magic shield and mobility make him a great counter to Vex. Just like LeBlanc, after level six, Kassadin should have enough mobility in his kit to make sure her fear doesn’t stop him from coming.

Zed is a pick that instills fear into any immobile mage. Vex will surely become even gloomier if she sees Zed in the same lane as her. AD assassins are traditionally strong against mages and Zed has the strong potential to one-shot Vex once he gets his ultimate and mythic item. In this matchup he will need mercury treads since Vex has her fear, but until she gets Zhonya’s Hourglass Zed has the advantage still.

Lucian fares against Vex in the same way as Zed, making him another strong counter to Vex. He’ll need mercury treads as well since he has a short dash, but ultimately his playstyle should overpower Vex in all stages of the game.

Most tanks and bruisers will likely do well against Vex, especially if they don’t have a dash that will mark them for Vex’s fear. Bonus points if they have crowd control as well. Some examples are Malphite, Shen, and Nasus.
