In preparation for the official 2022 launch, this project’s depth and magnitude allow guests to experience Black History like never before with the opportunity to feel like you are stepping straight inside the museum. For the past few years, the prominent designer has incorporated AR into his work and is able to present a visual and audio experience that highlights impactful storytelling. With Covid19 derailing many in-person interactions for the arts, Augmented Reality provides the perfect alternative to enrich yourself in an incredible learning exhibit without concern. Phills’s UNBREAKABLE presentation offers a complete production of intentional display with its award-winning concept. From the sculpture of Cudjo Lewis to the composition of Sound Designer Navid Lancaster. “It’s a storyteller’s dream that really speaks to the resilience of Africans who had spent over four hundred years in servitude and slavery across the Americas,” Lancaster says.

This extraordinary exhibit can be explored right from the guest’s phone as a riveting application where Cudjo Lewis gives a powerful lens into his life aboard the Atlantic Slave Trade. Especially for younger guests, those who already are glued to their phones, it will offer incredible insight that textbooks and articles can’t provide. In recreating this remarkable account, Black History is not simply told but experienced with a deep acknowledgment for what slavery felt during those dark times. A story depicting the inhumanity, terror, and resistance gives guests a space for dialogue and a way to reach back into the pivotal history that has shaped our country. In viewing and listening to Cudjo Lewis’s story, it’s impossible not to place yourself at the scene where slaves were forced into such hostile and gruesome environments. As UNBREAKABLE devotes its installation exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture, it serves as a collaboration for Museums to support the education and empathy that is essential to the community. In a societal shift where human rights are still questioned, this exhibit reveals much of what continues to be fought for even in today’s world. Visionary Anthony Phills is diligent in his commitment to bring this experience to everyone through the UNBREAKABLE app, and those who wish to contribute to the project may contact Anthony at his website: https://phills.com
